• Thirsty for Art: An Art Therapy Activity for Emotional Healing

In the serene ambience of our community art studio, participants gathered for the “Thirsty for Art” workshop, designed specifically for those grappling with emotional pain. As the soft sounds of instrumental music filled the air, the facilitator welcomed everyone with gentle encouragement, inviting them to explore their feelings through creative expression.

The activity centred around the concept of creating a personal ‘emotion jar’. Each participant picked a small glass jar that would serve as a vessel for their emotions. With an array of materials at hand — vibrant paints, textured papers, and shimmering beads — they began to transform their jars into visual representations of their inner landscapes.

As they painted, many found that their brushstrokes mirrored their feelings: bold and chaotic swirls of colour for anger, soft pastels for sorrow, and sparkly embellishments for moments of hope. Guided by prompts that encouraged introspection, participants shared snippets of their stories, fostering a deep sense of connection and understanding among the group.

By the end of the session, the jars became more than mere artworks; they evolved into tangible symbols of resilience and healing. Each participant left with not only a piece of art but a renewed sense of empowerment, reminded that through creativity, they could address their emotional pain and embark on a journey of self-discovery and healing.
